The Mortimer’s Cross Churches Kingsland, Eardisland, Aymestrey & Leinthall Earles sowing faith and sharing love in today’s world

Sunday May 31st 2020
Pentecost

Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name: through Christ our Lord. Amen

Here are the words of the hymns to join in with

1. Come, Holy Ghost, our souls inspire
and lighten with celestial fire;
thou the anointing Spirit art,
who dost thy sevenfold gifts inspire.

2. Thy blessed unction from above
is comfort, life and fire of love,
enable with perpetual light,
the dullness of our blinded sight.

3. Anoint and cheer our soiled face
with the abundance of thy grace
keep far our foes, give peace at home,
where thou are guide no ill can come.

4. Show us the Father and the Son
in thee and with thee, ever one
Then through the ages all along
this shall be our unending song.

5. Praise to thy eternal merit
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

1 Come down, O Love divine!
seek out this soul of mine
and visit it with your own ardour glowing;
O Comforter, draw near,
within my heart appear,
and kindle it, thy holy flame bestowing.

2 O let it freely burn
till earthly passions turn
to dust and ashes in its heat consuming;
and let thy glorious light
shine ever on my sight,
and clothe me round, the while my path illuming.

3 Let holy charity
my outward vesture be,
and lowliness become my inner clothing;
true lowliness of heart
which takes the humbler part,
and o’er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing.

4 And so the yearning strong
with which the soul will long
shall far surpass the power of human telling;
for none can guess its grace
till we become the place
in which the Holy Spirit makes his dwelling.

David Noon plays some Hummel today at the end of the service.
