Memorial Walks

Eardisland Memorial Walks is a First World War commemoration project, supported in part by a grant provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Its focus is remembrance, emphasising our 13 Fallen soldiers whose names are inscribed on our village War Memorial.

All Walks are circular, beginning and ending at Eardisland’s War Memorial in the village centre. Distances vary from less than one mile to over 15 miles.

There are thirteen in total.

Guide leaflets are available and recommended. Walks are all upon rights of way, mainly public footpaths but in some places quiet lanes feature. In a very small number of cases, A and B class roads are crossed or used over short distances to join footpaths. Permissive routes, that is, paths over land preferred by the landowner, are selected in a few places.

Distinctive ‘Eardisland Memorial Walks’ waymarks are posted to complement the guide leaflets. Arrows on the waymarks are colour coded: yellow for public footpath, black for permissive path, red for vehicular access.
